When can we finally dive in Mallorca again?

When can we finally dive in Mallorca again?

After 5 weeks of quarantine and no possibility of diving anywhere on the island, the few divers in Mallorca, who have at least the opportunity to take a look at the sea in compliance with the regulations, longingly look at the water surface under which they would like to dive .

Apart from the fact that it is still forbidden, there are currently no possibilities to fill your diving bottles as all 44 diving centers in Mallorca are closed? If you think about the fact that there may not be any international tourism at all this year, unless a vaccination pot is discovered beforehand, one wonders how many of the 44 diving centers in Mallorca will open again in 2021.

Although the situation on the island has now stabilized quite a bit and Mallorca is in a very good position compared to the rest of Spain, maybe very soon it could hardly have any new Covid19 infections.

If this is true, this would be a great luck for the Mallorcans and shows that the government has done many things right. But economically, this only benefits the hotels, restaurants and diving centers very little if no holidaymakers come. So how will it go on?

Opening the borders, airports and ferry connections quickly cannot be a solution, because then there is a great risk that everything will start all over again. Apart from that, it is questionable how many tourists would really come. The fear of infection on arrival is far too great and the EU Commission and most responsible experts also advise against vacationing completely, at least this summer.

The effects of the disease on individuals are also far from being known. Recent findings seem to show that even after a relatively unremarkable Covid19 infection, the lungs can be so severely damaged that the person concerned can never dive again, or at least for a long time.

So what can you answer the question we asked at the beginning? Nobody can give a serious answer at the moment. The only thing that remains for us divers is the longing view of the sea, whether real or virtual, and the certainty that there will be better times. This crisis, which has hit humanity all over the world, will also pass.

The more disciplined we are in coping, and the more the individual not only thinks of himself but of his fellow human beings, the fewer victims this catastrophe will ultimately claim.

A very experienced diver once said about diving problems, if you have 5 problems, don’t think of all 5 at once or that you are lost. Solve the most important problem first, then the second most important, and then the next. One by one, step by step. And that is perhaps exactly the way out of this crisis.

The first thing is to stop the virus spreading so rapidly and not to despair. This takes and demands sacrifices from everyone. Then we’ll see further. Until then we can only dream of the great blue and keep the vastness and beauty of the sea in our hearts. SCUBANAUTIC.com will continue to report on the fantastic diving areas of Mallorca. We hope to see you here again someday and dive with you again in these crystal clear waters.
